About the Impact Grant
In its efforts to inspire generosity and greater community giving, the Winona Community Foundation will be awarding an Impact Grant of $100,000 to a local non-profit serving the Winona area. The grant’s objective is to have a significant financial impact on a community issue or opportunity. Made possible by generous contributions from the Winona community and from strong fiscal oversight, this opportunity is the first time the Foundation has awarded a grant of this size since its founding in 1987.
Selection process and timeline
All 501(c)(3) public charities addressing the needs of the Winona area were eligible to engage in the application process. The unique opportunity garnered significant interest. Eleven organizations submitted letters of intent and three organizations were selected to submit full proposals. The Foundation’s Impact Grant committee met with the finalists on February 20th, with the final approval occurring at the Foundation’s full board meeting on Tuesday, February 27th. We will follow up with more information about the recipient organization once this final approval takes place.
10/10/2023: In its efforts to inspire generosity and greater community giving, the Winona Community Foundation is delighted to announce a new grant opportunity. For the first time, the Foundation is looking to award an Impact Grant of up to $100,000 to a local non-profit serving the Winona area. “The opportunity to really invest in the community is a big part of our strategic plan,” said Nancy Brown, president/CEO of the Winona Community Foundation. “Over time, strong fiscal oversight combined with generous contributions from the community has enabled us to make this grant available. Our hope is this grant will encourage the community to learn more about how they can have a big impact with their giving.”
The Impact Grant’s objective is to have a significant financial impact on a community issue or on an opportunity sourced by the community. The Foundation is seeking letters of intent pitching ideas of how this grant can impact the community. Any 501(c)(3) public charity addressing the needs of the Winona area is encouraged to submit a letter of intent.
The Foundation is offering information sessions for interested nonprofits on Tuesday, October 17 at noon and Thursday, October 19 at 5 p.m. Letters of Intent will have a due date of November 5, 2023. The Foundation’s intention is to award the grant by April 1, 2024.
