Grant Type Option 2
Sustaining Request
Purpose
To provide sustaining support for operations and programming, or bridge funding.
Funding Amount
Eligible nonprofits may request up to $5,000.
Eligible Use of Funds
Ongoing programs and operations: Intended for organizations that are right-sized and sustaining and need operational support. Or;
Bridge funding: Intended for organizations facing a sudden funding gap or unexpected financial need. Note: this type of funding request is not intended to be an ongoing source of financial support.
Bridge Funding requests may cover 25% to 100% of the funding gap or financial need, depending on the situation. This means that the total budget for a bridge funding request should not exceed $20,000, as the maximum grant award is $5,000.
Example Bridge Funding Request: The Winona Family YMCA applied for a grant to cover a sudden funding gap caused by an unexpected change in a partnership they had for their ropes course. Thanks to the “bridge” funding grant, the organization managed the ropes course re-certification expense for one year, and incorporated the on-going expense into its operating budget the following year.
Funds must be expended within 12 months of the application deadline. A grant report is required within 30 days of the grant end date listed on the grant application. Note: Matching funds are not required for Sustaining Requests.
Evaluation Criteria

IMPACT: The organization clearly identifies the program or project outcomes and has the capacity and ability to complete the stated objectives. The impact clearly indicates broad community benefits.
COLLABORATION: The organization’s request is inclusive of the community and collaboration efforts are clear.
SUSTAINIBILITY: The organization clearly presents a viable plan for financial support.
PLAN: The organization adhered to all grant application policies, procedures and timelines including attachment requirements.
