Home and Community Options Grant
“With this grant, HCO was able to supply our programs with the necessary tools that allowed us to continue to perform daily routines safely. Just knowing we have that added layer of protection from these PPE’s helped to decrease the underlying stress of the unknown.”
Home and Community Options received the WCF Community Grant Cycle 1: Mission Critical in April of 2021. The organization received $10,000. The grant supported two unfunded costs affecting the Home and Community Options staff, individuals , and programs as a result of the pandemic.
The funds were utilized to pay for PPE/infection control supplies (i.e. (surgical, KN95, and N95 respirators, gloves, gowns, and eye protection) for all HCO sites and to provide technology equipment including printers with printing, copying and scanning capability. These tools supported 10 of their programs to ease staffing challenges and additional expenses.
The organization reached 122 individuals with developmental disabilities served by HCO and the 505 staff employed during this grant period. In addition, the technology portion of this grant also enabled staff at the 10 locations where printers were deployed to focus more time on providing cares to the 78 individuals with developmental disabilities at these sites, rather than traveling to other locations frequently to address required documentation needs.
“The ability to purchase several styles and sizes of the N95 Fit Tested Masks was huge. The fit tested mask gives staff the greatest protection and is worn only when there is a positive case in the program. We were able to fit many more staff by having these options.”
