The Winona Family YMCA‘s mission is to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Earlier this year, they received a $6,421 grant from the Winona Community Foundation to purchase and install ten educational signage along the hiking trails at Camp Wenonah, which serves over 300 Winona County children each summer through outdoor education and character-building programs.
This August, all ten the signs were installed. Each sign was designed to share information about native species, watershed protection, prairie restoration, Camp history, and other topics connected to the land. Now that the signs are installed, the Winona Family YMCA anticipates an enhanced learning experience for campers, students, families, and community visitors.
Grants & Fundraising Director Suzanne Redepenning shares, “Nearly 90 percent of surveyed parents agreed that Camp helped their child develop new skills…The new trail signs will build on that strength by adding another way for campers to learn through exploration and hands-on experiences outdoors.”
